Cigna Dental Insurance
Crete Family Dental accepts Cigna dental insurance. Our team wants your dentistry to be accessible and affordable, so we are happy to file claims for any provider (even those we are not in-network with).
Of course, we also know figuring out dental insurance can be a pain -- so we have put together a reference guide for understanding your Cigna benefits or other dental insurance plan.
In-Network vs. Out-of-Network
Your dental insurance works like your medical insurance. If you have a dental HMO (health maintenance organization), you will need to find a dentist who is in-network with your provider to be eligible for discounts.
A dentist who is out-of-network has not agreed to provide care at a reduced rate. But don’t forget that our dental office files and processes claims even for providers we are not in-network with. PPO (preferred provider organization) plans allow you to choose your own doctor.
How Dental Insurance Works
For you, using your Cigna dental insurance benefits is a breeze. Just pay your monthly premium if you have one, and in exchange you will receive certain treatments and the dentist for free or at a reduced price. You pay your part of the treatment at the appointment. After a claim has been filed (the part we take care of), your dentist receives payment from the dental insurance provider.
Do you need more than a checkup and cleaning? After you have reached your deductible, or the amount you must pay out of pocket before your dental insurance will kick in, you will have an annual maximum. That’s the amount of money above which your insurance will not pay. If you have some leftover, find out what services you are eligible for and take advantage of your benefits before they run out at the end of the year.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
Typically, your dental insurance completely covers preventive services. That should include two checkups and cleanings per year and a set of x-rays annually. Prevention is key to maintaining good oral health for a lifetime to come, so make sure you take advantage of your benefits for lasting teeth and gums.
In addition to preventive care, your dental insurance should fully or partially cover fillings, root canals, and other necessary restorative work.
Because dental implants are a more expensive option in tooth replacement, they have traditionally not been covered by dental insurance. But as dental implants become more and more popular, their coverage is expanding.
If you are individually covered or receive dental coverage as part of your medical insurance, contact your dental insurance provider directly to discuss your coverage. Find out who is covered under your plan, what benefits you are eligible for, when your plan renews, and any other special considerations you may have.
People who receive dental insurance coverage through their employer can find this information from their human resources department.
